Police looking to crack case of the thong thieves
Lingerie, perfume being stolen at Triangle malls

If you happen to hear this sales pitch on a street corner -- "Psst ... I got thongs, pink thongs" -- cast a wary eye at the salesman and call 911.

Police say thieves have stolen thousands of dollars in lingerie and perfume from Victoria's Secret stores in Raleigh, Cary and Durham in recent months.

The panty snatchers have taken nearly $20,000 worth of bras, panties and perfume from the Triangle Town Center store alone, police reported. Thieves also hit the Cary Towne Center store, taking nearly $4,000 in bras and panties, according to Cary police. They hit stores at Northgate Mall and Streets at Southpoint in Durham, taking perfume and delicates valued at more than $10,000, police reported.

There are no suspects in any of the incidents, which date back to March.

It's unlikely the thieves are stealing for personal use. In three thefts at the Cary store, police reports say 110 pairs of Sexy Little Things underwear, 36 bras and 75 pairs of panties were taken. Raleigh police have reports of eight cases of shoplifting at the Triangle Town Center store since March.

By the time of the most recent theft -- 60 bras, assorted sizes, on July 15 -- the bandits had taken $19,603 in merchandise, police reported.

In Durham, police put the value of the thefts at $12,917, including $2,400 worth of Secret Embrace strapless bras.

Police note that the cases are similar. Accounts suggest that some of the thefts were carried out by three or more people -- one who distracted the store clerk while others filled bags. But police aren't sure if the crimes are the work of a single shoplifting ring.

"It certainly could be ... part of a larger scheme," said Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Funny article. But seriously, these guys aren't panty fetish types. They just found an easy racket. They could just as well be stealing cd's or dvd's if they could trick the sales clerk long enough. The point is, these guys wouldn't be here extolling the pleasures that panties bring them. Besides, for most of us, used panties is our game. Some hot chick has to wear them before they have any value!
